Holy Mass at Our Lord's Tomb and the Via Dolorosa

Good afternoon everyone - according to Jerusalem time! It is now the hour of Mercy in Jerusalem on Saturday afternoon. I am writing a little earlier in the day as we have the afternoon for free time and I thought it would be better to post now rather than wait until after dinner.
Most of the major highlights scheduled for today have already been completed.

Today we visited Gethsemane and the site of the Ascension

Hello everyone,
Today we woke, ate breakfast and left for the shrine of the Ascension of Our Lord. There is a small chapel that was built (around the time of the first Crusade in 1099 AD) over the spot where Jesus ascended into Heaven. Interestingly, it has been owned and operated by a Muslim family for many centuries. We had the opportunity to venerate the spot where it is believed Jesus last stood before He ascended to Heaven.

Two of the greatest mysteries of our Catholic Faith - in one day!

Wow! What a day! This morning started early. I woke up around 2:30 a.m. and could not get back to sleep. My internal clock will be off for a few days. I decided to get up and pray. I prayed my office (liturgy of the hours) and read from Scripture. In particular, I read from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke on the birth of Jesus. I thought - what better way to prepare to visit the place of Jesus' birth than to read from the Word of God? I was awake until around 4 a.m. and then went back to sleep until the wake up call. I was tired when the call came and I did not want to get up.

I am in Jerusalem!

Our group arrived in Tel Aviv close to the scheduled arrival - around 4:20 pm local time (9:20 am Minnesota time). We made it through customs - five people had to make baggage claims as their luggage apparantly did not make it onto the flight from Newark, NJ. One couple from North Dakota did not make it to Newark in time for the overseas flight. Pray for them so that they can join us soon.

Leaving for the airport in Minneapolis

I am off for the the Holy Land! God bless you and see you when I get back!
